Handmade in the USA, New Brookland Craftsman birdhouses and bird feeders are fully functional, attracting a variety of garden birds such as bluebirds, chickadees, finches, and wrens. New Brookland Craftsman builds each birdhouse and bird feeder out of quality materials that will last under all types of weather conditions. Here are a few reasons why you should buy a New Brookland Craftsman birdhouse or feeder.
1. Western Red cedar, known for it?s longevity in exterior applications, is the primary construction material use in our birdhouses and feeders. The elasticity and natural oils found in western red cedar makes it durable to variations in outside temperature and humidity. Subjected to outside conditions, Western red cedar ages to a lovely warm gray hue. To slow these aging processes down apply several coats of tung oil to the exposed wood. This process should be repeated once or twice a year according to the wear of the previous applied tong oil finish. Tung oil can be applied to wood, painted wood, or stone and it is safe for the birds.
2. We use milk paint when we apply a color to the wood. Milk paint is very durable and will toughen as moisture passes through the paint surface. Milk paint is non-toxic for birds and environmentally safe.
3. Galvanized tin is used with many of our roofs to extend the life of the birdhouse or feeder. The tin ridge on the Bird bungalow not only protects the end grain of the wood but also serves as a ridge vent for the interior ventilation of the birdhouse. New brookland craftsman uses recycled galvanized tin when possible depending on it?s? availability. Galvanized tin will age to a soft white and rust patina that works well with the overall aesthetic.
4. The stone work of the New Brookland Craftsman birdhouses and feeders are our most distinctive quality. The idea of a stone birdhouse was developed for several reasons. First, we thought it would be really great to have a stone birdhouse. Secondly we were tiered of squirrels chewing the opening of the birdhouse to get to the nest. And finally we thought it would really be great to have a stone birdhouse! Robert and I travel around look for intresting rock to include on our next birdhouses. This assembly of rock and Robert?s talent at laying the stone give each birdhouse and feeder its own unique signature. Although the general dimension stay the same on each type of bird house due to the each size house is built to attract certain birds. The color, stone, and stonework give each house and feeder its own distinctive look. The mortar we use is very tough and will hold the stone in place in all kinds of weather.
5. New Brookland Craftsman easy-to-install and easy-to-move birdhouse stand comes with every purchase of most birdhouses and feeders. Ease of installation and re-installation is because some birds have picky nesting habits and your first choice in location may not be the bird?s choice of location. To install the stand first hammer the rebar into the ground of the chosen location about half it?s length. Then join the two 30? black pipes together with the threaded coupling that is provided. Slip the black pipe over the rebar and attach the bird house onto the top threads of the pipe and you are through. If you need to relocate the birdhouse or feeder just pull up the rebar and repeat the above process. To give added pest protections apply a coat of Vaseline to the pole of the bird house stand.
New Brookland craftsman use the Audubon Foundation, New York bluebird society and Cornell University guidelines and specifications to build each birdhouses.
